What Home Education looks Like - 28th April 2014

Tons of stuff going on with our seeds! We took the paper off the "under the ground" potato project to see the spindly roots filling the pot.....

We also received some surprise poppy seeds from the Royal British Legion, which we have planted out the back.

Our tomato seedlings are growing very well in our sunny front window and may be strong enough to plant out soon.

Finally our beans are doing marvellously.... although one seems to be an overachiever!

As well as the potato project we're also excited to be taking part in a "Bees and beans" project this year too! 8 of our beans sprouted (we need 4 for the project) and are now growing nicely on our windowsill in the sunshine.

We've started them in these little fibre pots and will then plant those within the pots that have been provided. Very interested to see how this project develops.

What Home Education Looks Like - 17th March 2014

Tuesday was potato planting day so we looked out the big bins we used in previous years. The kit came with big bags for growing the potatoes in, but as we want to get as many as possible to eat we have cheated and used the trusty bins that have given us so many potatoes in the past! We'll probably use the bags for tomatoes. The kids planted a variety each and we labelled the lids.

We also planted the extra potato in a plastic bottle (with the top cut off) that sits on the windowsill with newspaper wrapped round for seven weeks. Once the newspaper is removed we should be able to see how potatoes grow.

As we were doing some planting I figured it was a good time to crack on with the rest of our seeds. We started off tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, carrots, beetroot, pumpkin, peas and sweetpea seeds in our seed trays and put them in the utility room where it's warm and bright.

Looking forward to seeing how they do. We have grown fruit and veg very successfully in previous years so hopeful.
